Melissa Bachelder, LCSW; PMH-C

Hello! My name is Melissa Bachelder, and I am a psychotherapist. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, graduating with a Master of Social Work degree from Aurora University. I am compassionate, warm, and empathetic. My goal as a therapist is to offer my clients space to heal, grow, and know they are not alone by providing unconditional compassion and support.

I have over 9 years of experience in the mental health field working with a wide range of clients in a variety of settings. I have worked with individuals, couples, and families. I also have experience working with teenagers and adults. I used a wide range of therapeutic modalities depending on the client and what is needed to meet their needs. I specifically enjoy using Client Centered therapy techniques and Cognitive Behavioral therapy. I have a lot of experience teaching clients about self-compassion, working on building self-worth, and empowering women. I also love teaching clients about Mindfulness skills and how to find what works for them to cope with life stressors. I offer experience having worked with couples using knowledge and skills in Emotionally Focused Couple's techniques as well as Gottman Therapy treatments.

Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C) Certified

I am passionate about helping mamas and their loved ones to know they are not alone and to receive support and treatment. Having a baby is a blessing, but also a major adjustment, change, and stressor in life. Even if all goes well with pregnancy and birth, it is still so hard to navigate becoming a parent. A lot of traumatic events can occur throughout pregnancy and childbirth which can compound the stress of parenthood as well. Using Client Centered therapy, I give women the space to heal, to process through emotions, and to know that it is okay to be depressed or anxious before or after giving birth.

Depression and anxiety are so pervasive in our community among teens and adults; they are so difficult to navigate, but with the right tools, it is possible to function more effectively in life.  I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help client to challenge distorted thinking patterns. Our thinking leads to our feelings, which in turn leads to our behaviors. If we can challenge and change our thinking, we can have a big impact on how we feel. I also incorporate education about Mindfulness techniques and self-care to help clients to cope more effectively with these feelings.

I love empowering women to know/find their worth. Low self-worth is pervasive amongst women experiencing anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges. I see many women struggling with poor body image, low self-worth, negative self-talk, and low confidence. I encourage clients to use personal mantras, challenge negative self-talk, use positive affirmations, and meet their goals.

I work with both teenagers and adults; I specialize in working with adults. I help teenagers and adults with a variety of issues, including, but not limited to the following: depression, anxiety, low self worth, stress management, relationship issues, and postpartum depression and anxiety.

I am very passionate about my work in therapy. I help guide others to heal through providing a warm, welcoming, and comfortable environment to process through difficult emotions. I strive to empathize, but also push my clients to grow and heal when appropriate. I am a very caring and compassionate therapist, I  help guide clients to grow and change and become who they want to be by Client Centered, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness preferred treatment therapy techniques.

In my free time, I love spending time with my husband, our daughter, our cat, and our dog. We enjoy spending time at home watching movies or TV shows. I love reading self-help/psychology books and love to learn! Despite being a homebody, I do love to travel and see new places. I also love going on walks. Tennis is my favorite sport and I love to get out on the courts and play when I have the chance.
